Why Hearing Impaired is NOT Appropriate

deaf deaf life May 31, 2023

Let me ask you this, what does the word "impaired" mean?

From the dictionary, here is the answer, "weakened or damaged".

Are Deaf people weak or damaged?

Are all people with disabilities weak or damaged?

NOOOOOOOOO!!! WEEE AARREE NOOOOTTT!

Please don't use the term hearing impaired. We prefer the terms, "Deaf or hard of hearing" and it's perfectly okay to ask us which one we prefer. It's the same as asking someone if they prefer Black or African American. We'd rather you ask then assume or worse use the term "hearing impaired".

Now that you know, educate others on why this term is not okay and why.
