What is Bake it with Sass?
Where you can level up your baking skills by learning to master baking a variety of desserts from scratch with an inclusive ASL community of bakers!
Most recipes are in written English and many members of my Deaf community, whose first and strongest language is ASL, have little to no access when wanting to learn something new. We have to ask for an interpreter and often the company doesn't have the budget for them or they don't bother to show up leaving us stuck.
Bake it with Sass breaks that barrier creating a space to learn through virtual classes and on-demand videos.Â
English speakers can also take advantage of this program because all the videos include English captions or an interpreter.Â

RUTH'S STORY
Â
My name is Ruth, and I am a Black Deaf baker…among other things. I grew up baking with my mother and learned everything I know from her. She had great pride in making everything from scratch and didn’t allow boxed cake mixes to disgrace her kitchen counters. For this, I am glad. Nothing beats homemade baked goods.
I bake when I am sad and when I am full of joy. Seeing people do a happy dance while devouring my food makes me feel alive. Suddenly, I feel seen; I feel needed. When I am using my God-given talents, oh my goodness, it feels surreal. My happy place is with a mixing bowl and a dash of Sass.
